2007 is the New 1979, The Great Wave in Chicago, The Flow State, etc.
In which I'm gettin' into the groove, boy.
✍️ Short one this week. Far more articles bookmarked than read. Main reason: just over 100 pages written on a project I hope to have a first draft finished before the month ends. Hope even more to be able to share it with you all some day.
📖 A picture-book guide to Maine, including The Little Island, by Margaret Wise Brown, also the author of Goodnight Moon. I am sincere in saying Michigan needs a book like that and if any illustrators are interested, contact me.
🧠 “Scientists have long known the mental and creative benefits of the flow state, in which total absorption in an activity banishes anxiety.” The life changing magic of being in the groove.
🌊 Iconic print The Great Wave has splashed down at the Art Institute of Chicago. The 200-year-old print will be on display in the museum until Jan 6, 2025.
⏳ If 1979 came out today, it was be about the year 2007. If that makes ya feel old, sorry. Still rips, though.
👵🏼 …And besides, you’re never to old to influence. “I slayed every day, and now I’m going to lay every day. I hope you slay while I decay.”
💭 From Letters from a Stoic: “The talk of snobs and parasites sticks in our ears long after we’ve heard it.”
✌️ That’s it. Get the shit talk out of your mind, work hard, get in the groove, and stay young forever. In short, keep that Hoping Machine running. Later, skaters.
Love,
Luke
